Tutorial for Creative Painting

Guide to Creative Paining

I recently stumbled upon an interesting article about painting. It shows a nice little method to create “freestyle” paintings. This is the short version:

Pick a motive and draw it “blind”, without looking at your canvas or screen. Since almost no one will get this drawing perfectly right, the result will be rather chaotic and abstract. Now pick the most interesting one.

Forget about the motive and concentrate on the abstract forms. Fill these with colors to your liking.

If you want to create an abstract painting, this is where the tutorial stops. 🙂 You can also try to bring back some recognizable forms into the painting, searching for patterns that might look familiar. In the end, you’ll most likely have a overly colorful painting of something which does not have very much in common with what you started.

And if you are indeed interested in this, read the full original tutorial which is available at mentisworks:

Disclaimer: I did not try this method myself yet (being in Master Thesis Panic Mode), but it appears to be fun enough to try. Personally, I would probably stop at the abstract state, though. 🙂

Disclaimer2: This trick probably isn’t revolutionary. Please complain if I’m boring you with too trivial things. ^_^tutorial, art, painting

Hi Florian,

Just wanted to stop by and say that I’m glad to see you having found my article of some use. I am happy to know that it gets some relatively regular, although small, traffic these days.

Take care,

Michal
