Once again, science attemts to step forward to fiction. Emotiv Systems wants to create a headset, which lets you control games with your thoughts and emotions.
This futuristic system is called Project Epoc. Using electroencephalography (EEG) it is supposed to read and interpret brainwaves. Project Epoc consists of three components: Expressiv, Affectiv und Cognitiv.
Expressiv interprets the mimic of the user. Affectiv detects emotions. Cognitiv is supposed to interpret the thoughts of the user so that one can influence objects in the virtual world by just thinking about it.
Emotiv Systems has yet to prove that their system can keep such bold promises. At the moment, only the Emotiv Development Kit (EDK) is available for developers. Consumers can not yet buy the headset.
Anyway, I think this development is exciting. This technology – if effective – opens completely new ways of human computer interaction. Spontaneously, a Star Wars Game comes to my mind, where you can use “The Force”. 🙂 Other suggestions? ^_^
